September hits this Saturday and Minnesota weather has been giving off the slightest Fall feels. I know I've said this before, but I am more ready for Fall than ever this year. With being in my last weeks of pregnancy the swelling is on a whole new level. Cool weather, colorful leaves and a baby in my arms? Yes, please! With the weather going from 60's to 80's still it can be hard to know what to expect each day. Style can be fun during this time of year because you can mix your Summer pieces and Fall pieces together to create really fun looks. I wanted to share a few tips on transitioning your outfits into Fall.
Obviously, being 38 weeks pregnant I'm not able to fit into much of my Fall gear currently. I've been wearing a lot of cardigans over dresses and wearing whatever shoes will fit my feet. The good news is it's not terribly cold and I'm always hot anyway so I haven't had any issues yet. Once I'm not pregnant you can expect to see a lot of these transitioning styles on my Instagram and blog. I just love layering and switching into new seasons.
Dresses Over Denim
I have always loved this look. I wear so many dresses throughout the summer months and have a closet bursting full of them. Just because the weather starts to cool down doesn't mean you need to say goodbye to them. Styling your favorite dresses over denim is a super simple way to keep those dresses in rotation. I usually like to pair the look with some kind of chunky heel to give me a little height. A lot of my dresses tend to be more boho so I don't like to feel swallowed in them. Never wear a tight dress over jeans, that would be silly. Always opt for something loose, kind of like a big tunic.
Jackets on Jackets on Jackets
It took me a while to actually get into wearing jackets, but once I started I couldn't stop. Leather, jean, duster... You name it! Jackets are by far the best accessory to transition you through the seasons. They tend to be a little bit more on the pricier side, but truly last forever. Finding good staple jackets that go with multiple looks in your closet is key.
Never Too Many Cardigans
Throwing on a basic cardigan can be the key piece to bringing your look from Summer to Fall. It was the biggest thing I invested in during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and have no regrets. Cardigans are the perfect layering piece for dresses, tanks, tee's, shorts and more. You can easily style your favorite cut off denim shorts & tank top with cardigan to bring your look right into the crisp Fall nights. I try to fill my closet with different colors and lengths to give me as many options as possible for different styles.
Bring Fall Colors Into the Mix
Mixing Fall tones into your looks is a super simple way to get more Fall ready. Dark burgundy, army green and mustard yellow are just a few of my favorites this season. By styling a hat or purse on top of a black summer dress you can instantly transition it into Fall. I'm also really happy leopard print is back in this season! It's my favorite neutral and I think brings a Fall tone to basically any look. Pair it with a deep red and I'm in heaven.

Shoes Always Do the Trick
You all know my obsession with shoes by now. Anytime a season changes I just can't help but get excited for all the different shoes I'm about to wear. Transitioning your outfits into Fall can be as simple as throwing on a new style of shoes. My favorite Fall style is by far over the knee boots. I can't get enough of them and love that I can continue to wear my favorite dresses while still staying warm. Investing in good boots & booties can go a long way in your closet. You don't need 50 pairs in order to create tons of different looks. Make sure to invest in basic colors and pieces you know you can style with at least 5 different looks in your closet.
Mix & Match Summer with Fall
Using your Summer pieces with your Fall pieces is a really fun way to create new looks while still getting use out of your whole closet. One of my favorite trends is mixing a mini skirt with a chunky sweater. It's so chic, on trend and super easy to do. Denim and suede skirts are probably my two favorites to bring into the Fall season. Both can be mixed with different textured sweaters and can work for day or night. I love doing the front tuck look with my sweaters so the sweater doesn't overlap the mini skirt too much.
