Although its basically Spring (Is it March 20th yet?) the weather is still all of the place. Colorado is know for having crazy weather. For example, this week has 40 degree and 70 degree days in the forecast. I'm obviously a huge fan of the warm days, but it makes dressing a bit more difficult. Layering is a big part of surviving the transitioning seasons when it comes to fashion. Layering is Key
Knowing the importance of layering changes the game when it comes to making it through the weird weather. Without having different pieces with your throughout the days can make for a really bad outfit choice. The mornings are super chilly and the afternoons are warm so dressing the part can be really hard. I bought this Kenneth Cole Teddy Coat after the New Year to get a really good deal on it. Although I was super pumped about the good deal the timing didn't give me a ton of options to rock it. I figured I needed to figure out a way to transition it through the seasons, or at least through Spring.
The first things I think of the second warm weather hits are mini skirts, floral prints and dresses. The second thing I think of is how much I need a good tan, but thats besides the point. Without having the right pieces to layer with it's almost impossible to wear these styles unless its 70 degrees out. Even then the weather can change the second the sun goes down so layering is basically key through March & April. Styling this teddy coat over a mini skirt was the perfect option.

Knowing the Right Pieces to Layer
I'd like to think layering is a pretty easy concept to understand, but knowing which pieces to pair with what is really important. For instance, if I would have layered this coat with jeans, booties and a sweater it would have kept the whole look to wintery. Something like that would have been better with a lightweight jacket preferably in a springtime color like blush. Pairing this heavy coat with light pieces keeps it balanced and transitioning in the right direction. Ankle jeans, cute sandals and a camisole would have also worked if you're still hiding your legs. Trust me, the sun needs to hit mine ASAP too.
Another piece I think makes a huge impact on bringing a look together is obviously shoes.
