We are 3 weeks away people!! It's about go time for the Oldenkamp family and we are so anxious to meet Baby O. This pregnancy has been a whirlwind of emotions and time has flown by. We've had so much changes in between finding out we were pregnant and now that it's crazy to think we are almost a family of 3. Life is a constant adventure. Kirby and I are more ready than ever to meet our son or daughter! We just can't believe how blessed we are. We have been giving so much love between the two of us and to know be able to add a third is a dream come true. I wanted to do a boho maternity shoot for multiple reasons.
One, I obviously love pictures, but you babes already knew that! Two, I wanted to capture the last moments of just Kirby and I. Our love and marriage will change with this new adventure! Obviously for the better, but I wanted this moment locked in time so we could always look back on it. Three, I wanted to keep things simple! Styling the boho maternity shoot was so fun. I wanted our love and Baby O to shine through.
Why You Should Do a Maternity Shoot
So I obviously shared the reasons we did the shoot above, but there are so many more. Having that moment cut out in your life is so special. We have been cruising through this pregnancy and it's insane how fast time has gone. Between moving across the country, Kirby finding a new job, me taking up blogging full time, helping plan my little sisters wedding, baby shower, bridal showers, bachelorette party... The list goes on. All along we are also prepping our lives and home for the babies arrival. It has been exhausting!
For us, this shoot was a special time to reflect. We got to hold each other, kiss, laugh and just focus on the moment. Having Kirby rub and love on my bump in a beautiful setting was so fun! It brought back memories of our wedding day and just how much we love each other. When you're pulled out of your daily routine it helps put focus onto the important things. Of course, we love on each other all the time at home. However, being in a pretty setting and just having the time to really think about our new life adventure was beautiful.
You are my sun, my moon and all of my stars. - E.E. Cummings
I do understand how a shoot can be an added expense. Trust me when I say, we are so feeling the financial hit of this baby already! We obviously received so many things from our brunch baby shower (thank God), but things don't stop there. We worked so hard on getting the nursery done and things prepped in the house. It just adds up! So please don't feel like I'm saying you have to spend a few extra hundred dollars on a shoot or you're missing out. Just know that if possible it is so special to have. With iPhone cameras being amazing now you can totally make your own shoot work! Grab a friend or family member, but on a cute dress and go for it! Having these memories (no matter how you capture them) will be a gift you cherish forever!
Love Through Pregnancy and Beyond
I wanted to be real with you babes about my favorite thing in life; Love. Anyone who knows me well or has been following along knows that I love, love. It is my absolute favorite thing! I always thank God for the love I am given every day. However, I would be lying if I didn't say that sometimes I have been freaked out about how pregnancy will change mine and Kirby's. We have a strong foundation after being together for almost 8 years! Kirby and I got married on our 5th anniversary and will be celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary the day before Baby O's due date!
Our love has gone through so much over the years, good and bad. We've worked through trust issues, communication problems, the loss of a sibling, career and big life changes... You name it! It hit me at about 32 weeks that this too was going to shape our love. Our new adventure with Baby O is full of unknowns. Are we going to love each other the same? Will we put focus into one another? How will we love each other as much as we love our little baby? So many questions and no way of answering any of them. So, we sit here trusting our path, our love and trusting God.
So I tell you to ask for what you want in prayer. And if you believe that you have received those things, then they will be yours. - Mark 11:24 ERV
I do believe we will be just fine. Marriage is work, always, and comes with good times and bad times. It takes choosing that person every single day and understanding that it's teamwork. I know that Baby O will throw us for a loop in the best way possible. Our love has only grown for one another through this pregnancy. It's unreal to feel the change happening between us and within our hearts. We view each other differently and have added so many new things to our life adventure. I can say I am so thankful for having 2 full years of marriage before baby. I'm not saying that's what everyone should do by any means. That's what we chose to do and I don't regret it at all. We wanted to focus on us, our travels and our memories.
Now, we are ready to focus on our family and growing in a new way together, the three of us. Pregnancy alone brings a lot of different things and it's been so fun learning those together. These next few months are going to be full of change and lots of figuring out our new groove. I'm lucky to have Kirby and I can't wait to groove to a new tune with my man.
About the Looks
I was so excited to style this shoot with Kirby. We never do anything like this so it was fun working together to make our looks work. I really wanted to keep things simple and boho for many reasons. We love the outdoors and if we still lived in Colorado we most likely would have been in some crazy mountain area. So I really wanted to keep things earthy in the shots. With that I didn't want to have anything too fancy or overdone on. The main focus of this shoot was to capture our love and my big ole baby bump so lots of props weren't necessary in our eyes. Plus, we don't know the sex of Baby O so we could get crazy with anything that would assume the opposite.
I was so excited to partner with Pink Blush (again) because this lace mauve dress is boho heaven. I have loved working with them throughout this pregnancy! They have some of the cutest maternity clothes and everything is great quality! I have a major obsession with purple so when I saw this it was basically meant to be. The cut of the top was really flattering and I loved that it was a muted color to help keep the earthy tones I wanted. It does come in 10 colors so if you're looking for something specific click the image below to check it out. Bringing the bouquet of flowers is the only prop we went with. It was simple, pretty and made for boho perfection!
Off the Shoulder Dress
The other look I wore is a dress I actually got towards the beginning of my pregnancy. It's super soft and I loved that it was cream. Again, I thought this kept things really simple and focused on what we wanted. I did add my hair extensions to this shoot just to keep my hair looking full. They're the same length as my hair now (thank you prenatal vitamins), but I have pretty thin hair so adding fullness helps a ton. With each look i wore simple sandals because my feet are so swollen these days. I also kept my jewelry really simple to just add little pops of druzy into the shots. Plus, I was actually able to fit my wedding rings on (made it work)! The bracelet pictured is the gift Kirby gave me on our wedding day with the saint charm my dad gave me on our wedding day. I wear this everyday and love that its in our wedding photos and now our maternity photos.
