Travel Diary – 36 Hours in Milan

To be honest, when we started planning our 3 Week European trip Milan was not a city we even thought of stopping in. After looking at flights and travel schedules it ended up being the easiest city to get out of coming from Cinque Terre. I now look back so happy that we made the trip to Milan! It is unlike any other city we had been to in Italy. The mix of modern and historical is too cool to even explain and the fashion inspiration is basically out of a Vogue magazine. We only had a short 36 hours in Milan, but it definitely stole my heart. I now have it on my bucket list to get back there for Milan Fashion Week sometime in the future. Even though we were only there for a short time we did make it to some of the coolest spots and obviously ate some of the best food. Check my list out below for the top things to do with 36 Hours in Milan!

Where We Stayed

We lucked out with the best Airbnb locations ever throughout our whole trip. With not doing much research on Milan we still can't believe we landed where we did. We ended up staying right in Porta Nuova which is better known as the richest business district in Europe. Being surrounded by huge, beautiful skyscrapers was so weird compared to the rest of Italy. We actually even stayed down the road (like literally half a block) from Bosco Verticale. It's 2 residential towers that houses over 17,000 shrubs, flowers and trees right on the side of the buildings. It was actually voted the best tall building in the world in 2015! How cool is that? The streets were lined with chic dressing people, fancy boutiques and amazing architecture. I highly recommend staying in this area! We rented from Paolo (the sweetest guy ever), check it out here.

Where We Ate

Grand Italia Caffe

We ate our last Italian pizza here (sad day) and it was amazing. We had honestly been walking forever that day and just popped into the first place that had pesto because I needed that on my last full day.

Osteria Brunello

We ate here are first night in Milan. It was a very chic place with the best staff ever. We had such a good meal and drank some of the most delicous wine. I got the tomato gnocchi with grilled mussles and Kirby got the grilled lamb. Highly recommend this place!

Alla Eucinq delle Langhe

This was the very last place we grabbed dinner the night before heading home to the states. We both got pasta, obviously, and had such a fun night. It was right on the main street so it was great people watching!

Things We Did

Churches

As in every city we stopped in in Italy we did a lot if church hopping along the way. I just seriously couldn't get enough of all the difference between each one. Plus, we walked so much in Milan that we just kept finding new ones.

Milan Cathedral

This building was absolutely stunning. The details and size of it left both Kirby and I in total awe. Funny story, we were standing staring at it, along with hundreds of other people, and all of a sudden you hear pouring rain start sweeping over the streets. It was a scene out of a movie! We could see it coming right for us and everyone was running and screaming trying to get to shelter. We seriously could not stop laughing. Plus, it helped get rid of a ton of tourist making it a bit easier to snap a picture!

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

This is a very high end shopping area that is breathtaking to look at. It had all the best designer stores that were so fun to window shop! I thought about getting something, but with it being the end of our trip we were a bit strapped for cash. The flooring had beautiful paintings on it and the ceiling was glass making everything look that much more beautiful. This place was obviously packed with tourists, but totally worth walking through.
